A Few Words About What We Do
Through our Committees, we provide a forum for discussion of issues, provide information & support to families, and advocate for the social and economic issues that affect the quality of life of the people we serve.
The council acts in an advisory capacity to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, identifying unmet needs and reviewing service proposals. We provide representation to the Inter Agency Council of Developmental Disabilities Agencies and work in cooperation with New York City’s other four Borough Councils as well as other advocacy and planning groups.
We advocate for the essential components of today’s community-based system of services.
